Tour Iron and Crystal Almería
The route starts at the emblematic Fuente de los Peces, the work of Jesús Pérez de Perceval, which leads us to the Nicolás Salmerón Park, considered the oldest green lung of Almería. Facing the sea, this park has been fundamental in the urban transformation of the city during the 19th and 20th centuries, connecting the Old Town with the old Fishing Port after the elimination of walls and the demolition of the ‘Barrio de Pescadores’ (Fishermen’s Quarter). Its rich vegetation and centenary trees make it a landmark of local evolution.
The park is organised into three areas: the Old Park, which arose from the Paseo del Malecón (1842-1845) and is characterised by trees of notable antiquity; the Paseo de San Luis, created in 1860 after the demolition of a bastion; and the New Park, designed from 1942 by the architect Guillermo Langle Rubio, which extends to Avenida Reina Regente and houses ponds such as ‘Los Delfines’ and ‘El Remador’, as well as the Red Coral sculptural ensemble. Its great extension offers varied views, from the Alcazaba to the English Cable, underlining the historical and scenic importance of the area.
