Tour Tastings in Almería
The route begins with a panoramic visit to the historic Nicolás Salmerón Park, the oldest green lung in Almería, located on the seafront next to the Port. From there, the route continues towards the imposing Iron Ore Loading Dock on Almadrabillas Beach, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, and then enters a network of streets that lead to the heart of the city. Highlights of this route include the Puerta de Purchena, a vibrant nerve centre that emerged in the mid-19th century after the demolition of the city walls, and the emblematic Edificio de las Mariposas, the work of the prestigious architect Trinidad Cuartara Cassinello.
The itinerary continues towards the Mercado Central de Abastos, opened in 1893 and an outstanding example of iron architecture, which fuses iron and glass structures inside with an attractive pedestrian complex outside. This market, comparable to Las Halles in Paris or La Boqueria in Barcelona, reflects the city’s economic boom driven by mining and agricultural exports, and offers the chance to sample fresh produce and local tapas, such as the exclusive Tomate Raf. The route culminates with a stop at one of the best wine bars or a restaurant located in a historic bourgeois house on the Plaza de la Catedral, where you can enjoy regional dishes and wines.
